Following considerable success in the award of new research funding in the area of health economics, we are seeking to appoint up to 3 new positions at either Research Associate or Research Fellow grade. You will join the Warwick Medical School, Division of Health Sciences (Clinical Trials Unit), and will contribute to the development of a portfolio of new trial-based and modelling-based economic evaluations. The portfolio of research studies that you will be working on includes economic evaluations in the context of child and adolescent health, orthopaedics, emergency care and critical care.
 
You will be encouraged to participate more broadly in the Division’s portfolio of health economics research and teaching activities. Training will be provided to develop skills to undertake high quality applied and methodological research across a number of different study designs.
 
At the Research Associate grade, you will have a Master’s degree in health economics or a related discipline. At the Research Fellow grade, you will have a PhD (or equivalent) in health economics or a related discipline. A proven interest in conducting health economic evaluations is essential as is experience of using statistical software (e.g. SPSS, STATA or SAS), coupled with the ability and potential to produce high quality economic research relevant to the health sciences.

Job Summary

This post will focus on research in the Health Behaviours and Inequalities theme (HB&I) and/or the Workforce and Organisation of Care theme (WOC) within HERU.  The post-holder will develop research projects and grant applications and contribute to the co-ordination and supervision of research activity.
 
Current HB&I theme activities seek to contribute to Scottish Government objectives for improving health and health care and reducing health inequalities and encompass a range of methodological approaches and applied studies in areas such as alcohol, diet, physical activity, and smoking .
 
The WOC theme focuses on how incentives influence the behaviour and performance of individuals and the organisation of care within the healthcare sector including the behaviour of medical and nursing staff and how the organisation of the health care sector influences its performance and ultimately patient care.
 
The post-holder will be expected to participate in policy translation and knowledge exchange activities. 

The successful candidate will join one of Europe’s leading centres for health economics. In the RAE 2008 staff from HERU made a major contribution to the University's submission to Unit of Assessment 7 (UoA 7), Health Services Research. The Health Services Research return was the highest scoring return for the University of Aberdeen and with a grade point average of 3.05 was joint first in the UK. RAE 2008 confirmed that 80% of the research submitted to UoA 7 by the University of Aberdeen was judged as internationally excellent/world class, with all the work identified as of international quality.

The Health Systems and Policy Group of the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute is seeking a highly motivated and independent Research fellow - health policy and economics to join a multidisciplinary team working on projects in the area of policy modelling, costing and cost-effectiveness analysis of public health intervention programs in low and middle income countries. The research fellow will support the PIs in the day to day running of the projects, ensuring their successful completion and the dissemination of findings. She/he will be developing new and existing skills in the health policy and economics field. 

A strong graduate and postgraduate classification (or be close to final submission) in relevant areas such as Health Policy and Economics and have a good quantitative background, and some experience with cost-effectiveness analysis of health-related policy interventions.

Salary will be on Swiss TPH scales, and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. A fixed term 2 year position is envisaged with a possibility of extension. Candidates interested in part-time work will be considered.

The Manager, HE requires an understanding of the Canadian health care system and knowledge of the decision-making processes within the federal/provincial/territorial jurisdictions, as well as a broad knowledge of research methods used in the development and application of health technology assessments. You bring a graduate degree in economics (or the equivalent in mathematics, statistics, epidemiology, with direct experience in HE) plus six to eight years of relevant experience in health services research.

You bring an in-depth understanding of HEs and microeconomics, including experience in economic evaluations, budget impact analyses, and computer-based economic and statistical modelling. You are skillful at applying your knowledge and experience with health technology and drug evaluation methodology and working with national experts in these fields. Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for a Research Associate III to support our multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA) projects from our Hammersmith office. You will independently direct components of research projects with guidance from senior staff, overseeing implementation of research activities by junior staff. You will also directly participate in implementation of advanced research activities related to projects. This role involves managing multiple projects with tasks varying according to project requirements. In this role you will:

• Manage the implementation of qualitative and quantitative MCDAs: develop study designs with minimal senior supervision; collect performance data; organize and run workshops to elicit scores and weights; work with outcomes research colleagues to design and implement preference elicitation surveys; prepare draft analysis plans and model specification reports; program models with minimal senior supervision.
• Oversee activities of more junior staff members in implementation of research projects
• Draft project deliverables (reports, presentations, etc…) at "final quality" level but still requiring senior review; draft abstracts and manuscripts as co-author.
• Act as independent project manager on projects fully supporting the principal investigator, and otherwise responsible for internal and external day-to-day management of projects.
• Mentor and train junior staff
• Support development of proposals and project budgets
• Support the development of the MCDA methods
• Support relevant business development activities
• Minimal travel is expected

Skills and Experience

• Must have experience of implementing and managing MCDAs
• Desirable to have knowledge of health care decision making
• Desirable to have experience in economic modeling, statistics, literature reviews, epidemiology, outcomes research
• Desirable to have experience of publishing research in peer review journals
• Project management experience

Education

• PhD or Masters in relevant discipline (e.g., Operational Research, Management Sciences, Decision Sciences, Industrial Engineering, Health Economics, Public Health) with some related experience in a consulting or similar environment; or
• Bachelors along with extensive directly related experience in a consulting or similar environment

• MCDA design development
• Workshop organization and implementation 
• Model programming
• Conduct literature reviews with emphasis on extracting value message and performance data 
• Draft project deliverables (reports, protocols etc) and draft abstracts and sections of manuscripts with possible co-authorship.
• Track budget and expenses and monitor timelines and deliverables.
• Support other "non-billable" activities as needed (e.g. draft and co-sign proposals; informal mentoring of junior staff; develop relations with colleagues within the company).
• Travel may be required

Following considerable success in the award of new research funding in the area of health economics, we are seeking to appoint up to 3 new positions at either Research Associate or Research Fellow grade. You will join the Warwick Medical School, Division of Health Sciences (Clinical Trials Unit), and will contribute to the development of a portfolio of new trial-based and modelling-based economic evaluations. The portfolio of research studies that you will be working on includes economic evaluations in the context of child and adolescent health, orthopaedics, emergency care and critical care.

You will be encouraged to participate more broadly in the Division’s portfolio of health economics research and teaching activities. Training will be provided to develop skills to undertake high quality applied and methodological research across a number of different study designs. 

At the Research Associate grade, you will have a Master’s degree in health economics or a related discipline.
