Title: Cost-Effectiveness of a Physician-Pharmacist Collaboration Intervention to Improve Blood Pressure Control
Patients’ poor medication adherence and physicians’ clinical inertia along with high workload have been known to contribute to poor blood pressure (BP) control in the U.S. A team-based care approach has drawn a lot of attention to overcome such challenges but its cost-effectiveness and generalizability need further investigation.

The presentation will focus on the methods and results of a clustered randomized controlled trial to examine cost effectiveness of team-based care, particularly collaboration between physicians and onsite clinic-based pharmacists. The intervention cost consists of physician cost, pharmacist cost, and antihypertensive drug cost. The incremental cost-effectiveness ratio was calculated for both systolic BP and diastolic BP. The findings make a significant contribution to understanding a team-based care approach within a pragmatic study setting (e.g using clinic-based pharmacists instead of researchers) and diverse study population.

The HERG virtual research seminar is a web-based meeting for PhD students and researchers in health economics based at universities and research institutes. It provides the opportunity to share knowledge and ideas with colleagues with no travel time or costs, and to extend a research network and develop new collaborations. The meetings will encourage high quality, constructive academic feedback supporting and promoting health economics research.

We invite oral presentations from PhD students and early career researchers who would like to discuss work-in-progress with a focus on health economics. Please contact us if you would like to present your work: [log in para visualizar]
