Job description
King’s Health Economics, which is part of the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience, is seeking a new Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Health Economics.
KHE are a team of health economists with expertise in designing and conducting high quality economic evaluations of programmes and policies, that contribute to health care policy and practice in the UK and globally. We are looking for an ambitious early career researcher who is looking to move to an academic role or a more established academic looking for a senior lecturer role. You will have an interest and expertise in trial based economic evaluations and a willingness to develop your own research portfolio. You will be expected to generate research grant income via collaboration with colleagues both within and outside King’s, contribute to methodological developmental work, contribute to the line management and support of research staff, and contribute to the programme of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at King’s.

Key responsibilities
• To establish a portfolio of research projects through the development of collaborations with local, national and international clinical and research colleagues and the submission of high-quality research grant proposals and to ensure research funding and final report deadlines are met.
• To disseminate high quality, internationally recognised research outputs, including publications in high impact, peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations and social media.
• To first supervise between 1 and 2 postgraduate doctoral students and contribute to the development of other post graduate students through second supervision.
• To contribute to the teaching and student support responsibilities of KHE, including King’s Masters level health economics modules, supervision of King’s Masters student dissertations, and external requests for teaching and training as appropriate.
• To contribute to the wider academic world, through board and steering committee membership, peer review, advisory roles, public and patient engagement etc.
• The post holder will be expected to maintain and develop working relationships with internal (within King’s) and external research teams and organisations, and to maintain and develop internal and external research networks to promote KHE and health economics at King’s.
• The post holder will be expected to work autonomously to meet the health economics commitments on a portfolio of national and international leading research projects. Support will be available from the KHE Director and Deputy Directors.
• The job requires post-graduate health economics research skills that cover the full range of research methods, including proposal development, systematic literature review, economic study design, development of economic tools, database and data collection monitoring, data cleaning and analysis, and economic modelling. The post holder must be able to carry out relevant statistical and modelling analyses and lead on research paper production independently with co-author input.
• The post will involve daily work with computers and visual display units. The flexibility to travel within the UK and occasionally travel abroad would be an advantage. Part-time opportunities and flexible working will be considered.

We are seeking an excellent empirical researcher and educator to join the Department of Health Services Research & Policy as a Health Economist to conduct economic appraisals of health and social care interventions using data from trials conducted across low, middle and high income settings.
The successful candidate will have demonstrable excellence in conducting economic evaluations that use trial data, and expertise in undertaking quantitative analyses in a common statistical package (such as STATA or R). A commitment to mentorship of more junior colleagues is expected, as well as to multi-disciplinary and collaborative working within and beyond the School.
The successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the strategic development of health economic appraisal alongside trial data, and will be expected to take a role within the LSHTM-Clinical Trials Unit and the pan-School Global Health Economics (GHECO) Centre. The successful candidate will contribute to related teaching and research degree supervision. A doctoral degree in a relevant topis is essential. The post is full-time 35 hours per week, 1.0 FTE and fixed term for 4 years. The post is funded by the Faculty of Public Health and Policy.
The salary will be on the Academic Pathway salary scale Grade 8 in the range £59,040 - £67,763 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). University of Dundee School of Business (UDSB) are currently advertising a PhD scholarship for a project on:
'Personal well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic'
The PhD will give you the opportunity to explore how personal well-being has evolved over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic and to identify those social groups most affected by lockdown and other measures. Specifically, you will investigate how satisfied individuals were with their life overall, whether they felt they had meaning and purpose in their life, and about their levels of happiness and anxiety. You will learn to answer research questions by applying econometric methods to large survey datasets and will thereby develop a range of valuable transferable skills for future employment.
The scholarship will cover tuition fees (Home/International), stipend and research expenses for up to 4 years. The successful applicant will be expected to hold a good MSc in Economics, Health Economics or related quantitative social science discipline.
