Blackpool has been awarded the prestigious National Institute of Health Research's, Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC) funding - one of only 10 such awards made across the country. Over 5 years, the funding will enable us to build the capacity for Blackpool to deliver an innovative programme of health and social inequalities research and to become fully research active. We are scaling up our highly innovative community co-research model so that we can improve the unacceptable health inequalities faced by our community. In this way, we are putting the Blackpool community at the heart of everything we do.
To do this, Blackpool Council will work alongside Lancaster University, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals, a range of community partners and crucially, our residents, as equal partners in this ambitious and ground breaking project.
We are looking for a highly experienced and skilled Senior Public Health Intelligence Analyst to work as part of the HDRC Research Team in delivering key analysis and research projects, using a wide range of analytical techniques. This will include analysing and interpreting data and information about a range of issues including health, socio-economic and environmental conditions in Blackpool, to inform on potential implications for research, policy and service delivery.. This role will work alongside a team of other co-researchers with a range of academic, practice and lived experience expertise. These will include youth and adult co-researchers with lived experience of facing health inequalities.

2) Ph.D. Opportunity at the University of Trieste: the Economics of Long-Term Care 

The University of Trieste is welcoming applications for one fully funded three-year Ph.D. scholarship to work with prof. Ludovico Carrino (University of Trieste & King’s College London) on "The future of Long-Term Care in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy, and the World: economic theory, empirical analysis, and policy evaluation”.

This Ph.D. scholarship aims to support new research on the economic and social sustainability of LTC supply settings (public, private, and family) using local and international case studies. The Ph.D. student will learn advanced econometrics techniques and will interact with regional public entities and NGOs and international research centers (Gateway To Global Aging, Centre for Society and Mental Health) to develop theoretical frameworks and econometric analyses on topics such as (i) poverty risk and family-work conflicts following the onset of LTC needs in a family member; (ii) economic evaluation of (existing or forthcoming) LTC policies’ effectiveness and efficiency. The results will inform regional administrations (and policymakers in general) on hidden social risks (intergenerational poverty, social exclusion) and improvement opportunities pursued through public LTC system reforms (social welfare, economic efficiency).

Health Economics Bristol (HEB) is a dynamic team of health economists, decision modelers and policy researchers. You will also contribute to our new and exciting MSc Health Economics and Health Policy Analysis, supporting our students through teaching and supervision.

6) Research fellowship at University of Catania, Italy: Health care financing - closing 13 June 2023

 
The University of Catania is recruiting a research fellow for a project on resilient health care financing, which is part of the international research project “FLASH - Flexible Approaches to Support Health through Financing” funded by the Horizon EU program.
 
Research activities are mainly related to a systematic review of the international literature on the resilience of the hospital sector as well as on the financing mechanisms that help in improving resilience. The main contribution of the project, however, is empirical and it is connected with the collection and statistical analysis of data for the development and the utilization of indicators of resilience of healthcare systems in general, and of hospitals in particular. 7) The Health Economics and Policy Research Unit (HEPRU) at the Centre for Evaluation and Methods, Wolfson Institute of Population Health, Queen Mary University of London, London (UK) is looking to recruit to two posts:
 
1.       Senior Health Economist: a 3 years research post (grade 6) in the first instance
 
We are looking for an experienced post-doctoral researcher with evidence for high quality research in the area of health economics and economic evaluation. Good grounding in health economics methodology and harnessing the value of health evidence and data is essential. The closing date for applications is 9 June 2023.
 
2.       Health Economist: a 2 years researcher post (grade 5 or 4) in the first instance
 
A post-graduate health economist with an ambition/ aptitude for evaluative data-driven research. Good knowledge of health economics methodology, including economic evaluation and decision analytic modelling, strong analytical skills, and effective team-working and communication skills are essential. The closing date for applications is 11 June 2023.
 
3.       PhD Studentship: a funded (up to) 4 years PhD studentship in health economics 
 
The aim of this doctoral research is to develop a body of work in the area of economics of upper gastrointestinal (UGI) cancer detection in UK primary care. This will involve using large UK healthcare databases to estimate disease risks, care pathways, health outcomes and healthcare resources and their variation across the UK population. Developing a decision analytic policy model of UGI cancer diagnosis and treatment to inform assessments of new strategies is a further project aim. In this role you will work within the Health Economics Group at Norwich Medical School, and in the Health Economics and Prioritisation (HEP) Theme of the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration, East of England (ARC EoE). 
 
In your first 12 months, you will contribute to an economic analysis of aStaff Mental Health Service (SMHS) in Cambridge and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT). This project is funded by an Evelyn Trust Health and Wellbeing grant, and facilitated by the NIHR Applied Research Collaboration, East of England (ARC EoE).
 
Since COVID-19, rates of poor mental health amongst NHS staff have risen sharply. In response to this urgent need for mental health support, CPFT set up the rapid access service for NHS staff in the region. It is among the first of such services in the UK. This project aims to create an evidence base that can be used by other services, and will assist commissioners, researchers, and policy makers in providing appropriate mental health support to NHS staff. 
 
You will be based at UEA in Norwich, working with a multi-disciplinary team of researchers, clinicians and patient and public representatives from the mental health community across CPFT, and the University of Cambridge.
 
Subsequent to the successful delivery of the SMHS study, you will input across a range of projects, potentially ranging from applied economic evaluations to stated preference research.
 
As a group we encourage personal development and capacity building. You will have the opportunity to assist with the preparation of funding bids, research governance, supervision of students or others working in this area, and similar research tasks. 
 
The post is ideally suited to an individual with a background in health economics, or similar field with a major quantitative component (e.g. health services research, data analysis, data science or decision modelling). You must be familiar with methods of health economic evaluation and/or decision modelling. Experience of economic studies in public health and/or mental health would be advantageous.
