Essen Economics of Mental Health Workshop 2020

We are happy to announce, that the application for the third Essen Economics of Mental Health Workshop is open.

The workshop is a cooperation between CINCH and the LSCR Ruhr and will take place from 3rd to 4th of August 2020 in Essen, Germany. Ezra Golberstein (University of Minnesota) and Martin Knapp (London School of Economics and Political Science) will deliver keynotes.

This year the workshop will include a panel discussion on publishing in peer-reviewed journals with a focus on work relating to mental health. The panel consists of Bruce Hollingsworth the editor of Health Economics, Michael Dardena co-editor of the Journal Human Resources and is chaired by Christoph Kronenberg (CINCH).

Half of those with a lifetime mental health problem first experience symptoms by the age of 14, and 75% before they reach their mid-twenties. This implies that nearly one in five individuals has experienced the onset of a mental health problem by their mid-twenties. The conditions are often persistent and recurrent meaning they influence the entire work-life of the affected individuals.

This workshop aims to gather (junior) researchers with an interest in applying the tools of economics to problems surrounding mental health. This includes, but is not limited to, mental health economics studies looking at informal care, loneliness, social exclusion, access to health care, insurance coverage, declines in physical health, age of onset, dementia, suicide, etc. Empirical analyses in this field are especially encouraged for submission.

In contrast to other events, discussants and not authors will present their work to stimulate discussion.

If you wish to participate, please submit a full paper to [log in para visualizar] by 1st of May 2020. There is no registration fee. Financial support for junior researchers in need is available. Please indicate in your submission whether you are in need of financial support. For further information, you check the website or contact us via email.
