Pharmecons Easy Access Ltd, an international health economics, outcomes research and market access consultancy is looking to recruit a Research Assistant in Health Economics. The post holder will work on a Horizon2020 European project. The post holder will apply appropriate and innovative health economics and quantitative research methods to perform the economic evaluation of new digital and artificial intelligence technologies with application in four disease areas.
It is based in York, UK although home-based employment is possible.
The applicants will:
• Lead/ contribute to the design of economic evaluation for before-after trial designs, by applying appropriate methodologies
• Liaise with the European partners for the data collection
• Prepare analysis plan, collect and analyse the health economic data, write up the report and undertake the dissemination activity
• Support and advise other researchers in the team on a per project need
• Undertake the overall project-management of the study
This is a 0.5 FTE post, for 3 years in the first instance, with the potential of an extension.
The post holder should have a MSc or PhD in health economics, or equivalent research experience of 2-5 years. They should have experience of developing and delivering successful economic evaluations alongside trials protocols, covering all the steps from design to data collection, analysis and reporting. They should have excellent knowledge of trial based economic evaluation and patient level data analysis, for both costs and outcomes, and a good peer reviewed publication record.
The post holder should have experience of:
• conducting high quality academic research using health economic research methods to evaluate complex health care/ public health intervention
• in depth knowledge of a wide variety of research designs and methods for conducting health economic evaluations and economic modelling;
• writing health economic analysis plans for research investigations;

2) Research Fellow in Health Economics, University of Manchester, UK
The University of Manchester invites applications for the post of Research Fellow in Health Economics. This is an exciting post-doctoral position to work on the econometric analysis of the links between health and social and economic outcomes. The post is available until 31st July 2022, in the first instance.
You will work with Dr Luke Munford, Lecturer in Health Economics, and a large team of investigators based in different Faculties at the University of Manchester as well as at the University of York. The role will involve investigating the links between health and social and economic outcomes at small geographical areas.
You will need a PhD (or be very close to completion) in economics, health economics, applied mathematics, statistics, human geography or similar discipline with a substantial quantitative element. You will also need to demonstrate a detailed understanding of micro-econometrics or advanced statistics for applied health research, and experience of managing and analysing complex survey and/or administrative data. Knowledge of English administrative and health geographies and geospatial analyses are desirable.

We are recruiting for a single permanent post, at either the Band 7 Technical analyst (economics) or Band 8A Senior technical analyst (economics) level within the Centre for Guidelines. Please note specifically in your application for which level you would like your application to be considered and indicate how you meet the essential criteria for the chosen level. Band 7 Technical analyst (economics): Working collaboratively within a small multidisciplinary team, the post-holder will provide advice and technical support to committees on economic issues during development and updating of guidelines. This includes systematically identifying and appraising economic evidence to address key health and social care questions and preparing structured summaries of the evidence. The post holder will also undertake the development of original, applied decision models and analyses that will be used to inform the deliberations of the guideline committee (comprising decision-makers who are predominantly clinical, public health, social care and patient experts with limited formal expertise in economics).
Band 8A Senior technical analyst (economics): In addition to the responsibilities outlined for the Band 7 Technical analyst above, the post-holder will also severe a quality-assurance function. You will be involved in reviewing guidelines produced by other developers to ensure that they reflect the economic evidence appropriately. As part of this, you will ensure that economic modelling and statistical analyses produced by the developer have been conducted robustly, are in line with NICE’s methods and are free from technical errors. You will also have the opportunity to mentor junior analysts.
What you will bring to NICE:
The primary requirement for the position is demonstrable ability in the practical application of mathematical modelling to inform real-world decision problems:
For the Band 7 level:
• You should have skills and experience in economics, mathematical modelling, statistics, operations research and/or data science.
• Expert ability in the analysis and synthesis of quantitative data is essential.
• You will also need the ability to communicate the methods and results of complex analyses to a range of audiences, both orally and in writing.
• At present, the team has a preference for models developed in MS Excel, R, TreeAge and/or WinBUGS; however, applications from candidates with experience in other platforms are welcome.
For the Band 8A level (in addition to all the Band 7 level requirements):
• You should have experience conducting economic evaluations in healthcare, including the development of economic models.
• Understand the principles of evidence-based healthcare, critical appraisal and the interpretation and synthesis of health care research evidence.
• Have experience or familiarity with research design, methodology, conduct and reporting.
• An ability to establish effective working relationships with a range of professionals both within and outside the Institute.
