Dear Colleague,
we are glad to announce the International Conference on
Complexity, Metastability and Nonextensivity
to be held in Erice (Sicily) at the Centre E. MAJORANA, July 20-26, 2004
There is increasing evidence that a large class of complex, usually
nonequilibrium,
phenomena in different fields such as for instance physics, chemistry,
geophysics,
biophysics and econophysics,share similar dynamical and structural
properties. Such
phenomena include self-organization, metastability,
anomalous relaxation, aging,
glassy states, amorphous clustering, non-Gaussian distributions,
non-Markovian
processes, mesoscopic dissipation, scale-invariant growth, among others.
The aim of the meeting is to emphasize common features that could reveal
unifying
concepts within a general theoretical framework.
The meeting is sponsored by the European Science Foundation programme
"Stochastic
dynamics: fundamentals and applications", University of Catania and
Palermo, INFN and
INFM.
Scientific contributions from participants are encouraged for oral or
poster presentation.
Persons wishing to attend the meeting and those wishing to present a
contribution,
should apply in writing to:

They should specify:
(i) full name(s), address, age, nationality;
(ii) academic qualifications, present position and affiliation and/or
a short CV
(iii) their specific interest in the Workshop
Junior scientists should enclose a letter of recommendation from the head
of their
research group or from another senior scientist active in the field. The
total fee,
which includes full board and lodging (arranged by the School), is 900 EURO.
The expected size of the conference is 80 participants, including speakers.
Limited financial support is available upon request.
Important Deadlines:
April 30, 2004 Application,submission of abstracts and request of
financial support.
May 30, 2004 Notification of paper (poster) acceptance and of
eventual support.
