The Center for Communication and Information Technology is an international research center that conducts high level research activities impacting both the market and society, providing practical demonstration of the added value of research through the development of systems, experimental validations, industrial applications, and social initiatives. These goals place FBK-ICT in a unique position in the international scientific arena differing from universities, which are primarily devoted to theoretical development, and from applied research centers, which are mainly devoted to technology transfer. 

The DPCS research Unit has an extensive range of scientific expertise in computational modelling of infectious diseases and epidemiology: development of large scale, individual based simulations of emerging infectious diseases; evaluation of mitigation/containment policies ;  evaluation of the effects of demographic changes; modelling of vector-borne diseases.

The position offered is an excellent opportunity for candidates with a background in Mathematics and Statistics.
 

Job Description

Within this framework, FBK-ICT is looking for someone to lead analysis of the spatio-temporal transmission of infectious diseases, using transmission dynamics and other models. Key responsibilities include conducting and managing research, publishing papers in leading journals, presenting results to decision makers.
 

Main Tasks:

    Development of mathematical models of infectious diseases transmission 
    Use of Bayesian techniques (MCMC) for model calibration 

 

The ideal candidate would have:

    PhD in a relevant subject (e.g.  Mathematics, Statistics, or Physics) to be obtained within 2018
    Experience in the field of mathematical models of infectious diseases transmission, including relevant academic papers.
    Very good knowledge of English.
    Knowledge of C language and statistical software R .

Gross annual salary: about € 38.100,00

Start date: May 2017

Contract duration: 1 year
