The Center for the Study of Complex Dynamics (CSDC, Università di Firenze)
organizes a series of Lectures on Complex Systems focused on some of the
most
"hot" topics currently under investigation in the field of complex
systems. The
Lectures aim at introducing these topics to a wide audience composed by
researchers and students coming from many different fields (e.g., physics,
mathematics, biology, engineering, psychology) and at creating an
opportunity
of discussions and scientific exchanges among the participants.

The Lectures will be composed of three monographic sessions. In each session
there will be two main lectures, one focused on theoretical aspects (2
hours)
and the other concerned with experimental and/or phenomenological issues (2
hours):

   * Neuroscience: October 6 -
   Lecturers: N. Brunel (Paris, France) and A. Destexhe (Paris, France)

   * Biomolecules: October 7 -
   Lecturers: L. Busoni (Paris, France) and P. de Los Rios (Lausanne,
Switzerland)

   * Evolutionary population theory : October 8 -
   Lecturers: S. Manrubia (Barcelona, Spain) and L. Peliti (Napoli, Italy)

Due to the introductory character of the Lectures, no contributed talks are
planned. However, in order to give all the participants the opportunity of
presenting and discussing their own research, three poster sessions will be
organized, one for each day. Each day there will be a poster session
related to the subject discussed in that day.

Participation in the Lectures is free and open to researchers and
students from
any field, currently pursuing research or interested to start an activity in
complex systems. Unfortunately, the limited amount of funding prevents
us from
economically supporting the participants.

All prospective participants are encouraged to submit posters (RELATED
TO THE SUBJECTS OF THE LECTURES), by sending a title and an abstract within
September 20 to the e-mail address:
