2) Senior Economist at the Health Foundation

This is a senior role in the Health Foundation’s Research and Economic Analysis for the Long term (REAL) Centre. The REAL Centre was set up in 2019 to improve the quality of strategic decisions about the health and care system – including on funding, on service priorities and workforce – so that they are based on good evidence and consideration about their long-term impact.   

The senior economist will join the REAL Centre’s senior management team and provide expert leadership to a team of economists working on research and analysis relating to social care and supply-side issues (particularly workforce and funding).  By applying their knowledge of the health and care system and/or government policy the successful candidate will design and deliver a programme of policy relevant and impactful research.  This is a leadership role, and the senior economist will provide management for a talented and enthusiastic team of economists, supporting them to further develop their skills and capabilities.
This is a unique opportunity for an experienced economist / analyst who wants to use their expert quantitative research and analysis skills to influence decision making and policy across the health and care system.  We are looking for an individual with outstanding communication skills, able to promote findings from their research through written publications, media and stakeholder engagement.

 4) Research Consultants 

We are looking to recruit three Research Consultants to undertake a wide range of projects in our health economic modelling (HEM) team.  We are a health economics research and consulting company owned by, and based at, the University of York.  We provide consultancy and research to a wide range of public and private sector bodies. 

The primary purpose of the role is to develop and critique economic models on a wide range of projects.  The candidate will be expected to work in project teams alongside other research staff and project directors.  The successful candidate will report to a Project Director of YHEC.
 
Main Duties

The main responsibilities of a Research Consultant are:

• After an initial training and development period, lead the development of economic modelling projects and take responsibility for specific elements within larger projects under the supervision of senior staff.
• Critique economic analyses submitted to HTA bodies, and report directly to those bodies on the strengths and weaknesses of alternative approaches.
• Critically review published economic models to inform the development of de novo economic models.
• Undertake data analysis, including, individual patient level data, survival curve fitting and stochastic modelling.
• To carry out quality assurance review of models developed both within the company and for external clients.
• Attend meetings with private sector clients, clients’ staff and external experts.
• Identify and retrieve relevant quantitative data from publications and other sources.
• Collect, analyse and interpret data.
• Report preparation and presentation to clients.
• Client liaison within a project, with the support and guidance of senior colleagues.
• Contribute to sales and marketing activities within the company.
• Occasionally provide supervision of other staff working on the project team.

We have a team of around 60 staff and hold the Investors in People accreditation with our composite score of 778, against an industry benchmark of 725, putting us in the top 20% of organisations. The Chair appointment, together with the opening of a lectureship position, aims to further strengthen the academic excellence and reputation of the research group on Labour, Education, Development, and Health Economics, and to extend its research activities. The Chair appointment comes with a decreased teaching load to promote a greater focus on research.

You should have already established an excellent track record across the fields of Labour, Education, Development, and Health Economics. 7) Fellow/Associate Professor at the Australian National University

 
The Department of Health Services Research and Policy at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia, is seeking to appoint an economist/health economist to join our team. 
 
This is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated researcher to join and make a significant and impactful contribution to a growing and vibrant multidisciplinary team at one of the world’s top universities. The appointed researcher will work on a national program of infectious disease surveillance based on whole genome sequencing (AusPathoGen), leading the cost-effectiveness evaluation of the program through the use of novel approaches to economic evaluation. The appointed researcher will also contribute to teaching and, as appropriate to the level appointed, will further their own research agenda, through pursuing funding opportunities and programs of research that augment the Department’s existing suite of policy-relevant health economics / economic evaluation projects. 

We are looking to appoint at either the Fellow (Level C) or Associate Professor (Level D) level. Experience in economic evaluation of infectious disease prevention and control is highly desirable.

9) Research Fellow/Senior Research Fellow in Statistics and Health Economics
 
This post provides a unique opportunity to lead methodological research in Econometrics using large-scale observational datasets. 
 
The post-holder will primarily lead (Senior Research Fellow) / contribute to (Research Fellow) a UK MRC-funded project exploiting instrumental variables to estimate the effects of time-dependent treatments using routinely-collected data. Duties and responsibilities include:
 
-Leading (Senior Research Fellow)/contributing to (Research Fellow) methodological developments to broaden application of IV to time-dependent treatments.
-Developing relevant software code (R or Stata) to implement the methods.
-Supporting the access, management and analysis of large-scale linked datasets.
-Leading (Senior Research Fellow) / contributing to (Research Fellow) writing further grant applications
-Supervise MSc and PhD students.
-Leading the submission of research papers to high impact peer reviewed journals.
 
The post-holder should have a PhD in Statistics, Econometrics, Data Science or other discipline with strong statistical component (e.g. Epidemiology, Health Economics), or equivalent research experience. They should possess strong quantitative skills in statistical analysis and computational skills in R or Stata software. They should demonstrate experience in causal inference methods in observational data research, manipulating and analysing large-scale observational datasets, leading publications in high impact peer-reviewed journals.
We will strongly encourage and support the postholder to develop their career. This may include supporting personal fellowships or methods grants applications. The post holder will be expected to formulate a personal development plan and to capitalize on training opportunities through UCL’s Graduate School and LSHTM Centre for Statistical Methodology as appropriate. You will receive mentorship from experts in the fields of statistics, health economics, causal inference and data science:

The Roles:
Reporting to the Technical Adviser, the Technical Analyst will be responsible for providing advice and technical support to committees on economic issues during development and updating of guidelines. This includes systematically identifying and appraising economic evidence to address key health and social care questions and preparing structured summaries of the evidence. The post holder will also undertake the development of original, applied decision models and analyses that will be used to inform the deliberations of the guideline committee (comprising decision-makers who are predominantly clinical, public health, social care and patient experts with limited formal expertise in economics).

What you will bring to NICE:
The primary requirement for the position is demonstrable ability in the practical application of mathematical modelling to inform real-world decision problems.
The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following:
•         Skills and experience in economics, mathematical modelling, statistics, operations research and/or data science.
•         Expert ability in the analysis and synthesis of quantitative data.
•         Ability to communicate the methods and results of complex analyses to a range of audiences, both orally and in writing.
•         At present, the team has a preference for models developed in MS Excel, R, TreeAge and/or WinBUGS; however, applications from candidates with experience in other platforms are welcome.

You will have the opportunity to extend your own skills in modelling and economics and contribute to methodological developments in the field.

The post holder should be able to demonstrate the following on their application:
