The Functional Genomics of Neurodegenerative Diseases group at the Institute of Neurosciences, University of Barcelona, is excited to announce an opportunity for a Master's student to join our research team. We are actively seeking a motivated and talented student in the field of transcriptomics, non-coding RNAs, cell culture, and functional assays to work on an innovative project.

In this Master's thesis project, our goal is to assess the immunogenic potential of human non-coding RNAs in neurodegeneration, with special focus on Huntington’s disease. This research aims to uncover drivers and pathways of chronic immune inflammation, strongly linked with neurodegeneration. Identifying activated pathways and sensors has the potential to define novel therapeutic targets

Objectives :
1.	Characterization of the RNA sensing machinery: Utilize state-of-the-art models and human samples of Huntington’s disease to analyze the distribution and levels of expression of RNA sensors that participate in neuroinflammation.

2.	Functional assays: Dendritic cell lines will be exposed to non-coding RNAs isolated from Huntington’s disease models and human samples and activation of the immune response will be evaluated.

3.	Optimization and Validation: Refine the functional design by evaluating the biochemical properties of immunogenic non-coding RNAs and assessing the impact of pharmacological modulation on activated immune pathways and/or specific ncRNAs

Benefits:
• Gain hands-on experience in immunofluorescence, cell culture, molecular biology
(RNA extraction, qPCR, ELISA assays), and functional assays.
• Utilize state-of-the-art lab equipment and facilities.
• Collaborate with leading neurobiology experts at the Institute of Neurosciences.
• Contribute to high-impact research with potential applications in translational
therapeutic research.
• Present progress in regular Institute of Neurosciences and group lab meetings.
• Receive support and guidance when applying for competitive Ph.D. fellowships

Requirements for candidates:
We are actively seeking students with a degree in biomedicine, biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline. If you are a highly motivated student with an exceptional academic record, a passion for research, and a strong background in molecular biology, we encourage you to apply for this Master’s thesis opportunity, which may lead to a Ph.D. position (after applying for a fellowship). This project will equip you with valuable skills, knowledge, and exposure to advance your career in biomedical research

To apply, please submit the following:

1. Your current curriculum vitae (CV), including your academic transcripts.
2. A cover letter describing your research interests, relevant experience, and career goals.
3. Contact information for two academic references who can provide letters of recommendation.

Please submit your application to Dr. Eulàlia Martí ([log in para visualizar]). Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview.

We look forward to receiving your application and potentially welcoming you to our dynamic research team. Should you have any questions or require further information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Información complementaria de la oferta:

The student will be integrated into the research group “Functional Genomics of Neurodegenerative Diseases” (P.I. E. Martí), at the Department of Biomedical Sciences (Universitat de Barcelona, Campus Clinic). Our group belongs to the Institute of Neurosciences that has been awarded with a Maria de Maetzu Excellence Acreditation. At the Institute of Neurosciences internationally recognized research temas are focused on the study of neurodegenerative disorders using multidisciplinary approaches.
