Are you passionate about cutting-edge science and ready to tackle global challenges through innovative research? We are looking for a highly motivated and talented PhD candidate to join our international and interdisciplinary team as part of C5 Project, funded under the prestigious EIC Pathfinder program.
About Project: The C5 consortium aims to develop a disruptive Solar-to-X technology that converts sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide directly into valuable chemicals and fuels using highly engineered cyanobacteria. Coordinated by the Universidad de Córdoba (Spain) and four European partners: Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Universiteit Leiden, Wageningen University and the SME INSociety, the project is highly collaborative and interdisciplinary. 
Your tasks:
-	Genetic engineering of Escherichia coli and cyanobacteria to construct synthetic cellular organelles.
-	Collaborate with other members of the team and consortium contributing to enzyme and metabolic engineering as well as strain optimization.
Your profile, qualifications, knowledge and skills:
-	Degree and MSc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Chemistry, Biology or related disciplines.
-	Experience in genetic modification of microorganisms, ideally cyanobacteria
-	Expertise in Synthetic Biology is a great advantage 
-	Excellent ability to conduct experiments independently and collaboratively 
-	Strong organization skills, project management and proactive “getting things done” mentality.
-	Having a genuine enthusiasm for science, innovation, and creative thinking!
-	Excellent communication skills in English (Spanish is not required). 
We offer: PhD contract for up to 4 years, starting 1st of November 2025. Deadline application: 23rd July 2025.
