Position: Extracellular Vesicles in Disease, Biomarkers and Therapeutic Applications

The +Pec Proteomics Research Group (+PPRG), led by Dr. Xavier Gallart-Palau and Dr. Aida Serra at the Biomedical Research Institute of Lleida (IRBLleida, Spain) and University of Lleida [https://www.irblleida.org/en/research/45/pec-proteomics], is seeking motivated and research-driven
candidates interested in applying jointly to predoctoral fellowship calls, including national, international, and institutional (IRBLleida, UdL) opportunities.
About the group:

Our multidisciplinary team integrates clinical proteomics and metabolomics, mass spectrometry, biotechnology, and systems biology to investigate altered intercellular communication mechanisms associated with neurological and systemic diseases. A major focus of the group is the study of
extracellular vesicles (EVs) as biomarkers for diagnosis, stratification, and prognosis, as well as their use as biocompatible nanovectors for therapeutic applications in personalized medicine.
This PhD project will study the dual role of EVs in disease, both as:
 biocompatible nanovectors with therapeutic potential for the targeted delivery of bioactive molecules in personalized medicine, and
 active contributors to disease mechanisms and sources of diagnostic, stratification, and prognostic biomarkers.
The candidate will investigate EV edition and loading for therapeutic applications, explore cargo composition, and functional impact in disease-relevant models, while also exploring strategies to
explore the role(s) of EVs in health and disease states. The project integrates clinical proteomics and metabolomics, advanced mass spectrometry, biotechnology, and systems biology, within a highly
collaborative and translational research environment.

Candidate profile:
We are looking for candidates interested in:
 Extracellular vesicles and nanomedicine
 Neurodegeneration, cancer and other human diseases
 Bioinformatics and omics data analysis
 Systems biology and molecular network modeling
The research project will involve tasks such as EV editing and loading, high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis, cell culture, and multiscale bioinformatics analysis.

Initial requirements:
 Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an official MSc in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, Biomedicine or related fields
 Bachelor’s degree totaling 300 ECTS or equivalent
 Minimum GPA of 7.5/10
 Good command of English (spoken and written)
 Previous training in omics sciences, lab experience, or scientific publications will be positively evaluated
The selected candidate will be supported to apply for competitive national and international predoctoral fellowships, including programs such as FI (AGAUR), FPU, and other relevant funding schemes.

Application process:
If you are interested in joining forces to prepare a strong application for a competitive predoctoral fellowship, please send your CV and official transcript with GPA to:
 Dr. Aida Serra: [log in para visualizar]
 Dr. Xavier Gallart-Palau: [log in para visualizar]
The selection process will begin on Dec 16th, 2025, and will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified.

Información complementaria de la oferta:
All applications that meet the requirements will be carefully considered. We are committed to equal opportunity and non-discrimination. Selection will be strictly based on scientific background, motivation for the proposed PhD, and the potential of the candidates to contribute and integrate into
the research team.
