The Call for Abstracts for the 8th PhD Student-Supervisor and Early Career Researcher conference opens on 1 March. This conference will take place on 2nd and 3rd of September 2021 and will again be organized by Erasmus University Rotterdam. At the moment, considering the circumstances, we are planning an online conference. However, we will keep our eyes open for opportunities to organize a hybrid event, welcoming those who can and wish to Rotterdam. We will announce the decision about the format by 30 June.

Prof. Dorte Gyrd-Hansen (University of Southern Denmark) will be the keynote. Job van Exel is the chair of the local organizing committee and Teresa Bago d’Uva chairs the scientific committee.

The conference presents a valuable opportunity for PhD students and young researchers in the field of health economics to present their ongoing research and receive important feedback from experienced health economists and peers with expertise in their field of study. It also provides an excellent platform to network with peers, and initiate collaborations with researchers with similar interests.

The Covid-19 crisis has resulted in limited possibilities for many PhD students to present and discuss their work. Therefore, as in last year’s edition, we will take into consideration in the abstract selection process how important it is to present at this conference. For example, because of approaching the end of the PhD, preparing for the job market, limited access to a network of academics, limited opportunities to present, or other motivations and circumstances judged relevant. This motivation will be asked in the abstract submission process.

The submission procedure has two steps. First, an extended abstract has to be submitted until March 31. In case of acceptance, the full paper needs to be submitted by July 31. In the case of an online conference, registration will be required but with no fee. In the case of a hybrid conference, online attendance remains free but there will be a small registration fee for those attending in person to cover basic local expenses. This fee will be announced by 30 June.

Last but not the least, engagement of supervisors is paramount to this conference. They play a unique role in accompanying their students during the conference while at the same time providing valuable formal and informal feedback to other participants.
