LONDON SCHOOL OF HYGIENE & TROPICAL MEDICINE
The Faculty of Public Health and Policy is recruiting three positions in health economics and related areas, at the levels of Associate (1 post) and Assistant Professor (2 posts). We seek three outstanding individuals with excellent quantitative skills, and the flexibility to learn and apply new methods for evaluating health care programmes. The appointees must have a PhD in health economics, economics, health econometrics, biostatistics, medical statistics, epidemiology or related areas, and evidence of excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate orally and in writing. The appointees will have opportunities to forge strong links with colleagues working on overlapping areas of interest through the LSHTM Centres for Health Economics in London (CHiL), Centre for Statistical Methodology (CSM), and international collaborators.
Associate Professor in Health Economics, Health Econometrics or Biostatistics
The appointee will be required to conduct and extend an innovative research programme on quantitative methods for personalisation. The postholder will work on an MRC funded study to advance quantitative methods for providing person-level treatment effects from large-scale administrative datasets, and on NIHR-funded studies that apply these novel methods (PI Professor Richard Grieve). The successful applicant must have experience in developing and applying advanced quantitative methods relevant to the health economics context. This full-time post is for three years, on the Associate Professor salary scale, starting salary, £56,473 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). Assistant Professor in Health Economics, Epidemiology or Medical Statistics
The post offers an excellent opportunity to learn and apply advanced statistical methods to large electronic health records (EHR) datasets, to answer live, important clinical questions. The postholder will work on an NIHR-funded project evaluating treatments for patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitushttps://www.journalslibrary.nihr.ac.uk/programmes/hta/NIHR128490/#/ (PI Richard Grieve). The appointee is required to have expertise in applying advanced quantitative methods to large, complex datasets. The researcher will work with colleagues in the LSHTM Electronic Health Records Group, international experts in diabetes modelling at the University of Washington, Seattle, USA. Assistant Professor in Health Economics
The appointee will work with Andrew Briggs, recently appointed Professor of Health Economics at LSHTM. The post offers an unusual opportunity to develop a career in health economic evaluation, utilising statistical and decision analytic modelling methods to inform policy. The postholder will work with Professor Briggs to develop a research agenda related to oncology. New oncology medications are often being approved by regulators under accelerated access arrangements leading to a limited evidence base, yet high treatment costs. The appointee must have experience in applying advanced decision analytic methods to support health economic evaluation of health care interventions. The appointee will have opportunity to develop collaborative links with the Center for Health Policy and Outcomes at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
