Postdoc position on social determinants of health and COVID. (project
COVID-SHINE) (web
<https://ifisc.uib-csic.es/en/about-ifisc/join-us/postdoc-position-social-determinants-health-and-covid-project-covid-shine/>
)
This position should be filled as soon as possible.
The regular working hours will be 37.5 hours per week (full time) with a
limited contract of 10 months. The gross salary is 1896€/month. Options for
continuation will be considered depending on results and funding
opportunities.
The appointed post-doctoral researcher will contribute to the research
project “COVID-SHINE. Understanding the spatio-temporal social determinants
of health to improve agent-based modelling of recurrent COVID-19
outbreaks”, funded by the “La Caixa” Foundation. The project is a joint
collaboration between the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF, PI: Prof. J.
Benach) and IFISC (PI: Dr. V.M. Eguíluz) and the team is composed of an
interdisciplinary group of scientists coming from the social sciences and
physical sciences.
The project has two general aims: (1) To enhance the ability of modelling
strategies to predict the dynamics of recurrent outbreaks of COVID-19 by
incorporating novel knowledge of the social determinants of health, and (2)
To develop an integrated systems framework to help to inform policies,
emphasizing the reduction of health inequalities. The specific objectives
are: (1) To examine significant social determinants of health unexplored in
previous epidemiological studies; (2) To generate new evidence on the role
of social determinants of health, both at the individual and small-area
level, as well as their possible interactions; (3) To analyse how these
one- and multi-level associations determine different evolutions of the
cumulative COVID-19 incidence at the small-area level over time; (4) To
develop Agent-based models (ABMs) that incorporates the associations found
in the previous objectives; (5) To develop an integrated systemic
framework, useful to guide decisions and propose sound policy
recommendations; and (6) To provide and disseminate timely information with
our findings and recommendations.
The appointed post-doctoral research fellow will mainly focus on the
development of Agent-based models that incorporate the effects of social
determinants of health.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD in in Physics, Mathematics or a
closely related discipline and it is desirable that she/he has
-
experience in working with epidemiological models (SIR-type models) both
at simulation and analytical level.
-
experience in data analysis.
