Dear Colleague,
We address you with announcing the upcoming annual MOLSIM Winter School.
The upcoming MOLSIM-2020 school will take place in Amsterdam, January
6-17, 2020.
The school targets PhD and postdoctoral researchers who want to
understand and apply basic and advanced Monte Carlo and molecular
dynamics methods to study chemical, physical and biological systems.
It is organized by the Amsterdam Center for Multiscale Modeling (ACMM)
and is part of the European CECAM program. It and will run from 5-17
January, 2020.
For more and information see the MOLSIM website
www.acmm.nl/molsim/molsim2020. Registration is through the CECAM webstie
https://www.cecam.org/workshop/1785 .
For your information:
CONTENT: MolSim-2020 is 2-week school that offers a program focusing on
numerical techniques for the study of properties of many-particle
systems. It targets PhD and postdoctoral researchers who want to learn
these techniques to study topics in physics, chemistry or biology. The
course may also be followed by advanced MSc students. It offers a recap
of the statistical mechanics relevant for molecular simulation, and
addresses basic and advanced simulation techniques including Monte
Carlo, molecular dynamics, free energy calculations, rare events, coarse
graining. The school will have as special additional focus the topic of
materials discovery using advanced methods from data science. This will
be covered by an expert in the field (Nicola Marzare, EPFL, Switzerland).
The school consists of an integrated program of lectures and hands-on
exercises. The book “Understanding Molecular Simulation” by Frenkel and
Smit will provide the basis of the lectures. This will be supplemented
by exercise handouts and copies of the lecture slides.
A poster session will provide the participants an opportunity to present
their research in an informal setting.
PRACTICAL: We have accomodation arranged at a local Hostel, Stayokay
Zeeburg, where all our participants will be housed in shared rooms (2
persons sharing a room). Accomomdation is covered from January 5 to
January 17.
Ineke Weijer ([log in para visualizar]) is manager of the course, she can help
out with practical arrangements, should you have any furthre questions.
Kind regards,
Prof. Evert Jan Meijer
