Dear Colleagues,
I hope that you are all safe and well.
I have vacancy for a three-year postdoc position on free surface flows
to work with myself, Anne Juel and Alice Thompson on the theoretical /
computational side of our project on the nonlinear dynamics of bubble
flows in confined geometries. Details below.
The closing date is next Friday (7th May). Start date is over the
Summer, travel restrictions permitting. Please pass on to any suitable
applicants.
Thanks and Best Wishes,
Andrew
============================================================================
A three-year Research Associate in Fluid Mechanics position is available
at the University of Manchester. The successful applicant will work with
Professor Andrew Hazel and an interdisciplinary team within the
Manchester Centre for Nonlinear Dynamics to investigate free surface
flows in confined geometries. The team have recently demonstrated that
bubbles in geometrically perturbed, Hele-Shaw channels can exhibit very
complex transient dynamics and there are multiple possible outcomes, see
Galliard et al. (2021) DOI=10.1017/jfm.2020.844. The aim of the present
project is to address a key outstanding question: does the system
exhibit sustained disorder following a localised perturbation, or is a
continuous level of background perturbation required to drive the
complex dynamics? The position is primarily computational/theoretical
and the problem is particularly amenable to analysis because it can be
effectively described by two-dimensional theories due to its large
aspect ratio. Moreover, the flow is at very low Reynolds number and so
the only nonlinearities occur within interfacial boundary conditions.
Further details including how to apply can be found at

Please contact [log in para visualizar] for any enquiries about the
position.
