We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in the group of “Signal Transduction and membrane protein therapeutics” (https://sites.google.com/view/signal-transduction-lab/) led by Javier García-Nafría at the BIFI institute in Zaragoza (https://www.bifi.es/es/).
The candidate should have a PhD in structural biology or membrane protein biochemistry, and have a background in protein purification and structural biology (ideally cryo-electron microscopy) with a solid publication record. The candidate will apply structural biology, cell biology, biophysics and in silico protein design to understand orphan GPCRs and develop new drugs (Arroyo-Urea et al-Preprint ResearchSquare-2023, Gusach-Curr Opi Struc Biol-2023, Lee-Nature-2020, García-Nafria-Nature-2018). The project is fully funded and will involve collaborating with a pharmaceutical company located in Cambridge, UK. The post has a duration of 2 years with a possibility of extension. Candidates with a strong publication record willing to learn structural biology are also encouraged to apply and assess feasibility to apply for additional fellowships such as Juan de La Cierva.
The group is found at the BIFI Institute (U. of Zaragoza) and it is state-of-the-art equipped for protein production in bacterial, insect and mammalian organisms, tissue culture, biophysics (ITC, Thermophoresis, DSC, light scattering, single-molecule fluorescence) and structural biology. The group is part of the Laboratory of Advanced Microscopies (LMA) within the same building, with TEM microscopes T20 and F30, Vitrobot, glow discharge and plasma cleaner for cryo-EM sample preparation. The Institute is also part of the Spanish Supercomputing Network and has a computer cluster for data processing.
Interested candidates please contact Javier sending CV, motivation letter and details of 2-3 references, until the 15th of June 2024.
