We are looking for a microbiology technician for the biomedical research support unit at the Aragón Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA). This recently created Unit is intended to support INMA researchers by providing scientific and technological advice related to bacterial cultures and microbiological techniques. The INMA has recently been awarded with the Severo Ochoa accreditation for Scientific Excellence.
Key responsibilities:
The applicant will work as part of a multidisciplinary team supporting various research groups focused on developing new materials and molecules to combat antimicrobial resistance. The applicant will be responsible for the organization and management of the microbiology laboratory (overseeing of stocks, storage, standardization of protocols, etc.), and for providing training and advice to researchers.
The applicant should have experience or be familiarized
with the following techniques and approaches:
• Bacterial cultures and microbiology assays
• RNA/DNA extraction
• Real-time PCR, RNAseq, sequencing
• Recombinant protein expression and purification
Requirements:
1-Education and training:
- A bachelor or master´s degree in molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or similar.
- A PhD degree will be valued positively.
2- Technical skills
- Hands-on experience in microbiology is essential.
- Hands-on experience in molecular biology is essential.
- Experience in complex bacterial cultures (polymicrobial), analysis of biofilms on solid
surfaces, genomics and/or proteomics will be positively evaluated.
- Experience in site-directed mutagenesis will be positively valued.
- Previous training in a GLP or GLP-like environment will be positively evaluated.

- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Dedication, motivation and rigor in scientific pursuits.
Job conditions
- Full-time contract (40 hours/week).
- On-site laboratory work.
- 2-year contract with possibility of extension.
- Competitive salary according to qualifications and proven experience.
- Estimated start date: January 2025.
