The mission of the South Central Library System is to help its 53 member
libraries to provide the best possible service to the public. It is located
in Madison, capital of the U.S. state of Wisconsin.

South Central Library System (SCLS):

-Promotes Resource Sharing
-Provides Professional Consultants & Quality Continuing Education Programs


South Central Library System Libraries is gathering unique stories for a
special campaign entitled 'Libraries For Real Life' (
http://www.librariesforreallife.org/). It is collecting and sharing stories
which reinforce the reality that today's public libraries are vibrant,
dynamic community resources that meet the information, education, and
recreational needs of residents of all ages.

 "Even the local librarians refer to our family's book collection as a
'branch library,' so why would we think the library is so important? Why
would the staff notice if a week went by that we weren't there? Perhaps it
is because we all recognize that the library is more than books and
borrowing. Though our borrowing habits are very beneficial to the library's
circulation statistics, our presence and purpose in the library goes far
beyond the obvious."

"Los bibliotecarios locales incluso se refieren a nuestra colección de
libros familiares como la 'sucursal de la biblioteca'. ¿Por qué pensamos
que la biblioteca es tan importante? ¿Por qué los empleados notarían si
pasa una semana que no vamos? Tal vez sea porque todos reconocemos que la
biblioteca es más que libros y préstamos. A pesar de que nuestros hábitos
de tomar libros prestados son muy beneficiosos para las estadísticas de
circulación de la biblioteca, nuestra presencia y nuestros propósitos en
ella van mucho más allá de lo obvio".


*VOCABULARIO*
Probablemente el vocabulario nos ha ofrecido poca dificultad. Comentemos
sólo:
*a week went by* = una semana transcurrió
*the week went by so fast!* = la semana pasó tan rápida!
*I went by myself* = fuí sola (al cine, etc.); "*I went alone*" es muy
triste. "*I went by myself*" es más bien independiente. "*I went on my own*"
sería aún más independiente, casi rebelde, no querer ir con nadie.
*we went by the book* = lo tomamos al pie de la letra

Vamos a fijarnos en la pronunciación de algunas palabras que pueden
hacernos dudar:

*campaign* [campéin] = campaña
*entitled* [intáiteld] = titulado
*reinforce* [riinfós] = refuerzan
*vibrant* [váibrant] = vibrante
*dynamic* [dainámic] = dinámico
*purpose* [pópas] = propósito
