3) Research Fellow, Centre for Health Economics, University of York

The Centre for Health Economics (CHE) is progressing its activities in global health economics, expanding and complementing our existing research strengths in this field through the development of a portfolio of rigorous methods and applied research of national and international policy relevance.

We are seeking to appoint a Grade 6 Research Fellow. You will have a strong background in applied microeconometrics and an interest in policy impact evaluation using quasi-experimental methods. Previous experience in global health (i.e. health-related work with a focus on low- or middle-income countries), or development economics, would be highly desirable. You will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing work, including e.g. a major NIHR-funded project developing and applying innovative methods for evaluating population- and system-level interventions in Brazil, South Africa and Indonesia, as well as a large project examining the consequences of conflict in Colombia for population health and the health system, using panel data econometric approaches. You will also have opportunities to contribute to the development of new research and research proposals on methodological and applied areas, in line with your interests. Examples of current topics of methodological research in the team include the incorporation of equity considerations in policy and economic evaluations, and the use of machine learning for causal inference in policy evaluation. You will develop ideas and necessary collaborations for application of research outcomes.  You will also communicate the results of research to different audiences (academics, policymakers and the general public) through written reports and papers, presentations at conferences, workshops and other forums.

Candidates should have the following skills and experience: advanced skills in the use of statistical package Stata, highly developed communication skills, the ability to leade a small project or identfied parts of a large project, the ability to develop research objectives and write up research work for publication.

A Master’s degree in economics, health economics, econometrics or another quantitative subject is required. A PhD in a relevant quantitative area or equivalent experience is desirable.

The post is offered on a fixed term basis for 24 months.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the obesity team at the University of Birmingham and to gain supervision from a multidisciplinary team spanning 3 University Colleges.  The PhD student will have access to the Institute of Global Innovation  ‘City Resilience’ theme and will be closely aligned with Birmingham City Council providing support to an initiative that involves ‘partnership working’ with a local authority based in Pune (India).   
 
The Phd studentship covers full payment of tuition fees at UK Research Councils UK/EU fee level (£4,320 in 2019/20*);

7) 24-month Research Associate Post, Open Research Area (ORA) funded project IN-CARE (INequality in Care)

24-month Research Associate Post, Open Research Area (ORA) funded project IN-CARE (INequality in Care - How are varying care systems associated with inequalities in care and wellbeing in later life?)
 
The Department for Global Health & Social Medicine at King's College London invites applications for a 24-month Research Associate post funded by the ESRC through the Open Research Area (ORA). 
 
The post holder will contribute to an exciting new project investigating (a) how different long-term care systems and recent long-term care reforms are associated with socioeconomic inequalities in care among older adults, and (b) the consequences of these inequalities for the wellbeing of older care recipients and their caregivers. The IN CARE-project has an international scope and is joint work with partners in the Netherlands, Germany and Japan.
 
Applications are invited from those with research experience at the doctoral level or extensive research experience at postgraduate level, within the social sciences or social statistics. He/she will have research experience in this area, and, a proven ability to carry out longitudinal analysis of complex survey data and multilevel modelling. A proven ability to provide high quality research, evidenced by authorship of publications or reports is also expected. Familiarity with statistical software packages is essential (e.g. SAS or STATA).
 
The post holder will be based in the Department of Global Health & Social Medicine, home to the Institute of Gerontology at King’s College London (Bush House). He/she will be responsible for preparation and statistical analyses of ELSA and SHARE data, examining the impact of long-term care systems on inequalities in (in)formal care, health and wellbeing. The post holder will be encouraged to contribute to the academic community through publication and conference presentations. He/she will also be expected work on their own initiative, although he/she will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Professor Karen Glaser, the Co-Principal Investigator, Professor Mauricio Avendano and Dr. Ludovico Carrino. The post holder will also liaise with the European and Japanese leaders of the other work packages.
