I'm enclosing below a postdoc announcement from Javier Buceta, who recently moved to Valencia from the US. Welcome back, Javier!
POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH OFFER
The research group of Dr. Buceta (http://www.thesimbiosys.com
offers a 2 years postdoctoral position to conduct research at the
Institute for Integrative Systems Biology (I2SysBio, CSIC-UV) at
The topic of the research will focus mainly, but not exclusively, on
modeling the dynamics of the Ebola zoonotic niche within the context of
the NIH funded project "Risk Assessment of Ebola Outbreaks through
Probabilistic Modeling of Chiroptera Zoonotic Dynamics and Socioeconomic
Factors”. Further background about this project can be found in the
The research will be theoretical and computational, and performed in
close collaboration with the group of Dr. Paolo Bocchini at Lehigh
University (Pennsylvania, USA).
The project aims to understand how the migratory patterns of bats driven
by environment/climate, and additional socio-economic factors of the
population, contribute to the spreading of Ebola in Africa. Common tools
used in this research include, but are not limited to, analysis and
simulations of partial differential equations models, methods of
dynamical systems, stochastic approaches, statistical analysis, and
machine learning techniques.
The profile of candidates must be a PhD in Physics/Mathematics/Computer
Science/Engineering...with programming skills and knowledge in modeling
and dynamical systems. Expertise in machine learning is a plus.
The offer includes a competitive salary (net salary after taxes ~2,400
EUR/month**) and travel funds. Submissions must include a complete CV
and the name and contact information of up to 3 possible referees.
Inquiries/submissions must be sent to [log in para visualizar]
using "NIH POSTDOC” as the email subject.
The starting date of the appointment is asap (yet subjected to the
required time to formalize the contract through CSIC) but no later than
December 2020. Applications are welcome until the position is filled.
** The final figure of the NET salary depends upon the personal situation of the candidate, e.g. marital status.
