on our side, everything is ready for the next CECAM/MARVEL Classics in molecular and materials modelling on Thursday May 20 2021 starting at 15:00 CEST.

Tony Ladd (University of Florida) and Daan Frenkel (Cambridge University) will discuss for us

Free-energy of solids: origins and consequences of the 1983 CECAM workshop  

The program includes two talks:

  • Thermodynamic of hard spheres: 1950’s to 1980’s (T. Ladd)
  • Follow-up of the 1983 workshop (D. Frenkel) 

followed by an informal session in which our speakers will share scientific memories and, if we are lucky, personal stories on the atmosphere, developments, and events that led to the creation of their algorithm for computing the free-energy of solids.
